Poster 372: Women in Leadership in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Societies Throughout the World

Objectives: The proportion of women in orthopaedic surgery is low compared to other specialties, despite a equal numbers and men entering the field medicine. This gender disparity persists across various aspects sports purpose this study was characterize number leadership positions medicine arthroscopy societies throughout world compare percentages vs positions. Methods: Publicly available websites for were evaluated during March 2022. Non-surgical excluded, as lacking publicly information. Data collected listed on websites, categorized into Board Directors, Executive Committee, Office, Council (all typically included Presidential line, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, or specific high-ranking members), Committee Chairs (excluded general committee members). Results: Of 46 societies, 16 (34.8%) Europe, 10 (21.7%) Asia, 6 (13.0%) South America, 5 (10.9%) North 3 Middle East (6.5%), 2 Africa (4.4%), Australia international organizations (4.4%). Four countries had more than one society: Argentina, Israel, Australia, Mexico. As represented by Figure 1, Directors comprised 2.5% (4/161), Committees 7.1% (11/154), 9.4% (13/138), Officers 15.8% (3/19), Councils 5.9% (1/17), Spokespersons 16.7% (1/6). For America Europe led representation with 4.0% 3.8%, 2.0%, from Asia reported no women. Regarding most 27.8%, remaining regions ranged 0.0-7.9%. Chairs, both European International around 8% (8.0% 7.7%, respectively), yet double reporting Officers, similar (16.7% 18.2%), whereas zero office. Only region electing two Spokespersons.
